The veritable mosaic of artistry that is the Rice Junkie
Collective began with some simple experimentation within
a group of friends: six individuals with unique talents
coming together to make music. What started with late
night jam sessions soon flourished into an opportunity
for these now seasoned performers to showcase their
talents in more public venues, inspiring collaborations
with a wide array of other artists.
The RjC is known as a "collective" primarily
to recognize each of its members, who are superb solo
artists in their own right. As the RjC, they mix their
individual flavours together to create a sound unlike
any other. Ranging in genres from contemporary rhythm
& blues and funk to acid jazz and house, the RjC
has amassed a solid repertoire in an alarmingly short
period of time. They have played for a variety of occasions
as well as gigs around Toronto's bar scene. Notable
venues include Rancho Relaxo, Una Mas, the Toronto International
Dragon Boat Festival and the former All Stars bar and
lounge.
Summer 2002 promises to be another groundbreaking year
for these up and coming performers. Be sure to check
